Washington loves a tell-all book. Washington also loves a book that “exposes” all the things about Washington that everyone (allegedly) finds distasteful.
One of those distasteful things is the so-called “Washington read,” the practice of allegedly egotistical, self-centered D.C.-types who immediately flip to the index to find out if they’re in the tell-all.
Journalist and author Mark Leibovich’s new title, “This Town,” is all about all of the above. But minus the index. Leibovich, reportedly, opted against playing into the very kind of behavior his own book “exposes.”
Enter the Washington Post, which decided to give its readers what they so crave — and maybe deliver a jab to an employee of its top rival, the New York Times (Leibovich). The Post built an unofficial “This Town index. (Full disclosure: Intercepts didn’t actually purchase the book. But we’re sure glad the Washington Post did, and that our friends on 15th St. NW built an unofficial index.)
